Grant Application Types for Foundations and Government Agencies
Some grantors allow applicants to submit free-form grant proposals, while others have their own, proprietary formats. However, many foundations and government agencies require proposals to be submitted in a common format. Grant applicants must review the requirements of each potential funder to determine exactly how to format and submit proposals.
Most foundations prefer proposals be written in the National Network of Grantmakers (NNG) Common Grant Application format. This layout consists of a cover letter, a single-page cover form, a maximum five-page proposal narrative and required attachments. The NNG Common Grant Application mandatory attachments include evaluations, organizational information, financial documents and the project budget.
